How the Senior Expert will fit into the Integrity team
The Senior Expert will be a senior technical and management role at Integrity, providing internal and external leadership on key thematics – Conflict, Security and Governance.
You will sit within our Directorate Services (D/Services) which leads the design and delivery of our work. Your role will include responsibilities in company strategy and management, technical delivery, business and proposal development, and wider institutional learning. The Senior Expert will work flexibly across Integrity’s different services and directorates and be attracted to a fast-paced working environment.
Your role will be based in London and you will report to Director Services.
The Senior Expert’s Scope of Work
The Senior Expert’s role is a varied one, particularly focused on providing internal and external leadership on key thematics including Conflict, Security and Governance. You will take on Project Director positions on large, high profile assignments with UK government clients, and provide technical leadership in winning new business. Positioned at senior management level in the directorate, the role also includes strategy and management functions.
You will lead on articulating, evolving and expanding Integrity’s offering on Conflict, Security & Governance, working in line with wider Company Strategy. This will be achieved through providing inputs across Directorate Service’s three functions: Design, Delivery and Learning. You will take on Project Director responsibilities for high profile flagship projects with major UK government clients. Alongside this, you will lead the development of new business, build and strengthen key account and consultant relationships, manage colleagues, and support some company and directorate management processes.
Terms of Reference:
A.Design (30%)
The Senior Expert helps strengthen and articulate Integrity’s approach and offer within the Conflict, Security and Governance thematics. The Senior Expert will be expected to:
- Lead the articulation, development and roll-out of technical approaches and methodologies, in key services, thematics and/or geographies, and in line with Company Strategy.
- Provide internal and external thought leadership on Integrity’s technical offering.
- Lead on, and contribute to, the technical design of new Integrity opportunities, from identification and pre-positioning through to submission, negotiation and inception.
- Develop and sustain strong working relationships with key government clients and other relevant accounts.
- Provide constructive quality assurance of technical offers on selected new programmes and/or bids.
- Support the growth and/or improvement of particular service areas, under the leadership of Heads of Service.
- Engage with and influence emerging opportunities and delivery concepts and ensure Integrity’s technical offering is responsive to market requirements.
- Lead and/or contribute to internal and external communications on agreed services, thematics and/or geographies.
B. Project Direction and Management (30%)
The Expert supports Integrity to deliver its portfolio of projects and relationships on time and to high quality standards through management and governance roles. The Senior Expert will be expected to:
- Sponsor select contracted projects in governance and/or management capacities as Project Director and/or as a member of project governance boards.
- Negotiate successful proposals to contract ensuring effective coordination with relevant parties across Integrity’s four directorates.
- Lead on project responses to strategic risks and opportunities.
- Balance internal and external resource requirements.
- Effectively, empathetically and diligently manage relationships with clients, consortium partners and stakeholders more broadly.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, to high levels of quality and in keeping with Integrity’s ethics and ethos.
C. Technical Delivery (20%)
The Expert plays a role in delivering technical inputs on Integrity’s projects. This includes leadership and advisory roles and working in collaboration with leading experts from Integrity’s bench. The Senior Expert will be expected to:
- Perform Team Leader and other technical leadership roles on contracted projects.
- Assure and control quality on contracted projects, in specified areas.
D. Learning (10%)
The Expert supports internal learning around Conflict, Security and Governance. This includes building awareness of Integrity’s approaches and strengthening the capacity of colleagues to design and deliver to the required standard. The Senior Expert will be expected to:
- Lead the identification of lessons from across Integrity’s portfolio, and beyond, and facilitate lesson-learning across the team.
- Identify, understand and translate emerging industry trends and help formulate Integrity’s proactive response.
- Participate in and, if necessary, lead the Senior Services Forum that coordinates Integrity’s Services functions and activities.
E. Staff Management (10%)
- Line manage select Integrity staff and/or corporate consultants at grade levels below S2.
- Mentor and support colleagues.
- Work with colleagues under line management to develop their careers, contributing to professional advancement, job satisfaction and personnel retention.
- Work with colleagues not under line management to support their professional development in areas of specific expertise or companies, including supporting the development of in-house training materials and delivery of training.
Experience and Expertise
The Senior Expert will have:
- 12+ years’ experience working within either the international development, public policy, conflict and security, and consultancy sector.
- Thematic expertise in conflict, security and governance, including experience working in FCAS environments.
- Experience in senior technical and management roles on international development projects.
- Understanding of the National Security Strategy and related HMG architecture.
- Understanding of MEL best practice.
- Experience in effectively managing complex projects, clients and teams, including an understanding of contractual requirements.
- Written and oral fluency in English, with excellent communication skills.
It is desirable that you will also have:
- Experience working with CSSF, DFID and/or USAID.
- Proven expertise in the design and delivery of multiyear MEL programmes in the international development sector, preferably with relevant experience on programmes in fragile and conflict affected states.
- Software expertise, e.g. Microsoft Excel, Access etc. French and/or Arabic language skills.
